Intro

Yo. So I decided to start a blog. A lot of people over at BYDLS are doing it, and I love that site. Also, I wanted somewhere I could rant semi-anonymously on all things life and death related. A bit about me:

~ I'm in advertising. That's my day job. I'm one of those nu-media yuppies you hate.

~ I left 'conventional' university to join a scientific post-doctoral research team. Life's too short to spend it being lectured.

~ I am indescribably happily married. We went to the same school, we went to university together, and now we're married. Our first anniversary is in May. We live in a country cottage in a beautiful location.

~ And I have CMV. Which, apparently, only about five people in the world have. I also have anorexia and osteoarthritis, though my relationship with food has been healthier since I've been married.

~ CMV is Cytomegaloviral disease. Cytomegalovirus is something that everyone carries, but no one really gets affected by it. Sadly I weakened my immune system so much due to eating disorders and various other factors that I ended up giving myself Cytomegaloviral disease, which basically is an autoimmune disease in which the cells get bigger and pop. So they essentially blow themselves up. Most people who get it die when they reach the stage I did (turning grey), as all your blood cells are dying - at the time, I said to the doctor at the hospital "I don't have time to die, I have to do my A-levels", and was out of hospital within three weeks.

~ No one knows I have CMV except my husband and my two closest friends. My boss has no idea, my research colleagues have no idea, all my other friends have no idea. I like to keep it that way; I have so many defining factors already that I don't need another one!

You can find me on Facebook here.

I'm sorry about the auto immune disease. We're all terminally ill as we all eventually die. you know about randy pausch, the carnegie mellon professor who lived way longer than he should have with pancreatic cancer. Keep positive.

I send more love & health your way.

Totally agree, life is a terminal disease ;) people often seem to find it weird that I'm so upbeat, but seriously; what else are you supposed to do?!

Thanks for the comment :)
